RATIONALES BEHIND THIS PROJECT
I'll be making a video to present all this soon enough, but until then, here's another video by someone who's not related to me at all that explains the reasons behind this project
My research is based on finding affordances to using a game called Minecraft in the classroom.
Being a gamer myself and learning about teachers that have already started using Minecraft in the classroom back in 2010, I wanted to learn more about the topic.
This project was spearheaded by my small team at University of Toronto and eventually set the foundation for games in education in various provinces in Canada. Most of the results reported were published in papers over the years and all findings suggested game driver approach in a classroom had a lot of of positive effects. This is not the same a gamifying the classroom and instead refers to the approach of using games a the source of content at schools. It served as a pioneering study for the longer study by Dr. Simon that will examine other effects Minecraft has in education.
